This Privacy Policy describes how BABEL collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our iOS application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Authentication data (email, user ID from Apple/Google Sign-In)
  • Conversation text you manually input
  • Screenshots you upload
  • Optional context descriptions

2.2 Automatically Collected

  • Usage statistics (decodes per day)
  • Subscription status
  • App crash reports
  • Device type and iOS version (anonymized)

2.3 We Do NOT Collect

  • Contacts
  • Camera access
  • Precise geolocation
  • Cross-app tracking

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide AI decoding service
  • Enforce daily usage limits
  • Manage subscriptions
  • Communicate service updates
  • Diagnose technical issues

4. AI Processing and Third-Party Services

4.1 Google Gemini API

Conversation text and screenshots are transmitted to Google Gemini for AI analysis. We do not permit Google to use your data to train models.

4.2 Supabase

Stores account info, usage counts, and Premium translation history. US servers, SOC 2 Type II certified.

4.3 Apple and Google Sign-In

We receive only minimum necessary info (user ID and email).

4.4 RevenueCat

Subscription management. Payment processing entirely by Apple; we never receive payment card info.

5. Data Retention

  • Conversation inputs processed in real-time, not stored unless Premium
  • Account data retained until deletion
  • Usage counts retained max 90 days
  • Deletion completed within 30 days of account removal

6. Data Security

  • TLS encryption in transit
  • Row-level security on all database tables
  • JWT token verification
  • No plaintext password storage

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have rights to access, deletion, portability, correction, and opt-out of data processing.

8. Children's Privacy

BABEL is not directed to children under 13. We delete any data collected from children upon discovery.

9. International Data Transfers

Data may be processed in the United States. Use of the App constitutes consent to transfer under appropriate safeguards.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

We do not sell personal information. California residents have additional rights under CCPA.

11. Changes to This Policy

Material changes will be notified via in-app notice or email at least 30 days before taking effect.
